  • Summer Driver Education 2024 (June Classes)

    Registration for June classes ends Monday, June 3 or when the classes are full. Classes are limited to 35 students. No class on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. BHM Community Education offers classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel instruction year-round. Classroom offerings include: Fall A (Sept-Oct), Fall B (Oct-Nov), Winter (Jan-Feb), Spring A (Feb-March), Spring B (April-May) and many sections throughout June and July in the summer. During the school year, classroom is offered right after school (3:45-6:45 pm) 2-days a week for 5-weeks. During the summer, class times include mornings, afternoons and evenings, M-F for 2-weeks. It is recommended students are age 15 by the last day of classroom instruction, or shortly thereafter, as this is the age the student needs to be to take the Written Knowledge Test. The fee includes 30 hours of classroom instruction, 6 hours of behind-the-wheel (BTW) instruction with a licensed teacher AND all classroom materials. BTW instruction is typically scheduled one-hour each month for six months. Once you have your Instructional Permit, do not wait to be assigned to a BTW instructor so you can schedule your first BTW session. Driver’s Education is not funded by the State of Minnesota, therefore, all costs must be incurred by the family upon registering. (No discounts or scholarships are available for the driver education program.) June Make-Up Session (Buffalo & Hanover Classes): One make-up session is scheduled for Tuesday, June 25, 8-11 am, at Buffalo High School. Tardies and/or absence from one class need to be made-up. Students needing more than 3-hours of make-up time will be withdrawn and the student will retake 30 hours of classroom instruction and pay the $125 classroom fee. Please check for schedule conflicts prior to registration. Parent and Teen Safety Presentation: June 18 or July 31, 630-8 pm at Buffalo High School. Soon to be drivers and their parents should plan to attend this safety presentation as part of their Driver’s Education training. The focus of the presentation is to educate the audience on the seriousness of teen driving, the real risk of teen crashes and what parents and teens can do to make things safer when new drivers are behind the wheel. The student fee is $10. Students should pre-register at bhmschools.ce.eleyo.com or call 763.682.8770. Safe Communities of Wright County and Community Education offer the presentation.

    This Parent & Teen Safety Presentation is intended for families registered in the BHM Community Education Driver's Education program. Only the student/teen needs to register. Please include the total number of parents/guardians that will attend in the registration question to ensure we have enough seating.   • Girls Summer Basketball FUNdamentals Camp (Gr 3-5)

    We are pleased to offer a low-cost, fun opportunity for girls currently in grades 3-5 (current 23/24 school year) to improve their skills and have fun. This summer skills camp will be led by girls' basketball traveling coaches. Skill-based drills will focus on the fundamentals of shooting, ball handling, passing, catching, defense, rebounding, finishing footwork, and more! There will also be cool refreshing freezies!   • Wilderness Inquiry - Canoe Field Trip

    This Mississippi River Canoe Day Trip will last for four hours and go from Hidden Falls Regional Park to Harriet Island. Participants will paddle on the Mississippi River in a 10-person North canoe that includes a stop for lunch and educational activities. All gear and equipment, safety instruction, and Wilderness Inquiry guides who lead the experience is provided. Participants will connect with the local environment, see the community from a new perspective and have fun bonding as a team. Chaperones are needed.   • Artistic Me: Little Houses

    Create some fun garden or plant décor. You will choose from fairy houses, bird houses or planters. Paint with some bright colors and welcome visitors to your creations. Items will be clear glazed and fired for pick up at a later date. This class is held at Artistic Me - 205 5th Street NE, Buffalo. Parents may drop off their child at Artistic Me or choose to have your child meet at the Community Education office in the Discovery Center to walk with a chaperone to Artistic Me.     Ninja Anywhere believes that movement is healing, life-giving, and empowering. Ninja Anywhere exists to positively impact the health and happiness of all our ninjas: we want to educate and inspire everyone to build their health and confidence, find their inner strength, and improve their own lives as well as their broader communities. Through our innovative obstacle course, we will prove that fitness can be fun, that healthy is happy, and that all of us can do great things!   • Storybook Theatre Presents: Hansel and Gretel

    Hansel and Gretel are like any brother and sister…they can’t stand each other! But when their parents sign them up to be Adventure Scouts, they have no idea the adventure they are in for! Troop Leader Paul takes his Adventure Scouts on a camping trip and tells a scary story about Brunhilda the Witch and her house made of Candy. Excited by the prospect of all that sugar, Hansel takes off into the forest after everyone has gone to sleep, and Gretel goes after him! What will happen when they meet Brunhilda? Will they ever get back home again? Auditions are open to students ages 7-16. Auditions will be Monday, August 12, 12-2 pm at the Discovery Center auditorium. The audition process can last up to two hours. The cast will be announced at the end of the two hour audition; each cast member will receive a rehearsal schedule for the remainder of the week. Rehearsals will be 12-4 pm throughout the week. The public performance is Friday, August 16 at 7 pm in the Discovery Center Auditorium. We need 1-2 student volunteers to be sound/light technicians. Technicians need to be at the rehearsals Wednesday through Friday night’s performance. Call 763.682.8733 to sign up to be a technician. Tickets for the performance are $7 adults and $5 students. Tickets will be available the week of August 12 at the Community Education office and at the door the night of the performance. Doors will open at 6 pm. (No reserved seating.)
