    School of Fish is a 2 1/2-hour kids fishing class open to kids (and adults!) from grades 3 and up taught by pro angler and fishing TV show host Mike Frisch. Students learn about lakes, finding fish in those lakes, and some great ways to catch them. They also learn to tie a fishing knot and rig and use a slip-bobber setup. For that, kids get: *Rod & Reel *Hannay’s Marine/School of Fish Hat *Tackle box and tackle *School of Fish full color workbook *One adult is invited to attend with a child at no additional charge, provided they share one equipment packet. **Most importantly, however, graduates leave class with the knowledge, skills, and equipment to go fishing!   • Storybook Theatre Presents: Hansel and Gretel

    Hansel and Gretel are like any brother and sister…they can’t stand each other! But when their parents sign them up to be Adventure Scouts, they have no idea the adventure they are in for! Troop Leader Paul takes his Adventure Scouts on a camping trip and tells a scary story about Brunhilda the Witch and her house made of Candy. Excited by the prospect of all that sugar, Hansel takes off into the forest after everyone has gone to sleep, and Gretel goes after him! What will happen when they meet Brunhilda? Will they ever get back home again? Auditions are open to students ages 7-16. Auditions will be Monday, August 12, 12-2 pm at the Discovery Center auditorium. The audition process can last up to two hours. The cast will be announced at the end of the two hour audition; each cast member will receive a rehearsal schedule for the remainder of the week. Rehearsals will be 12-4 pm throughout the week. The public performance is Friday, August 16 at 7 pm in the Discovery Center Auditorium. We need 1-2 student volunteers to be sound/light technicians. Technicians need to be at the rehearsals Wednesday through Friday night’s performance. Call 763.682.8733 to sign up to be a technician. Tickets for the performance are $7 adults and $5 students. Tickets will be available the week of August 12 at the Community Education office and at the door the night of the performance. Doors will open at 6 pm. (No reserved seating.)
  • Summer Fun Cake Pops

    Cake pops are made for kids, and now they can make their own! We’ll teach you how to combine just the right amount of cake crumbs and buttercream icing to create tasty cake pops in Bright and Beautiful Summer fun colors and designs! You will learn to read a recipe & follow directions, how to melt candy melts and kitchen safety. At the end of this class you will bring home some beautifully decorated Cake Pops for your family!!

    Join your fellow orchestra friends to help maintain your playing skills in the middle of summer! The day camp will include large ensemble work, sectionals, working with our high school orchestra mentors, and listening to special performances by our guest artists. The camp session will conclude with a concert for family and friends. This camp is for students who has a minimum of two years’ experience playing the violin, viola, cello, or bass.

    This class is specially designed for kids eager to dive into the exciting world of content creation on YouTube. Learn tricks that filmmakers use to create favorite videos. Edit your video, add transitions, insert a soundtrack and share your finished video with the world. Bring a USB drive (at least 8 GB) to save your games on the last day.

    What’s messier than a slice of juicy watermelon? WATERMELON SLIME! Artists create their very own slime that looks just like goopy, gloopy, drippy watermelon, seeds and all! Dress for a mess! Please pack a nut free snack and drink for your child.
  • Wilderness Inquiry - Canoe Field Trip

    This Mississippi River Canoe Day Trip will last for four hours and go from Hidden Falls Regional Park to Harriet Island. Participants will paddle on the Mississippi River in a 10-person North canoe that includes a stop for lunch and educational activities. All gear and equipment, safety instruction, and Wilderness Inquiry guides who lead the experience is provided. Participants will connect with the local environment, see the community from a new perspective and have fun bonding as a team. Chaperones are needed.
